WARNING AGAINST 1.5 DEGREES

PROTECTING THE GLOBAL TEMPERATURE RISE

Since the Paris Agreement came into force in 2016, efforts have been made by international communities to keep the global temperature below 1.5 ° C.

If the Earth warms just 1.5 ° C more than the pre-industrial averages, we will face irreversible destruction. Increasing greenhouse gas emissions with fossil fuel consumption have already begun to confront us with the most difficult process that humanity has ever faced!

More than 80% of the world’s total energy consumption still comes from fossil fuels. And the pollution from this fuel is unfortunately very harmful to our planet, and this damage is mostly irreversible. We, as MİLRES, seek to create a world that works with green energy. Balance must be maintained and the temperature of our world must not be disturbed. Unfortunately, 1.5 °, which appears to be a very small number, will end our world.

RENEWABLE ENERGIES FROM FOSSIL FUELS

We believe we can do something to mitigate the consequences of climate change, because more than one-third of global carbon emissions arise from energy production.

With this belief, we started our journey by turning our face to the wind and building a turbine in the 2000s.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT INCREASES BY 1.5°?

If you look at the global warming data, you can see that the average temperatures vary around 0.75-1.5 degrees. So, what does this value, we do not care about, affect?

A temperature increase of 1 degree does not create a noticeable change in the first place. However, in the regions of the world sensitive to temperature changes, 1 degree means a tremendous difference. Especially in areas with frozen water (ice). In these regions, ice is often found very close to its melting point. Therefore, a change of 1 degree will be sufficient to disturb the balance towards the melting of a significant part of the glaciers. Greenland, for example, is covered with a layer of ice that reaches miles in some places. However, nowadays, especially in the summer, these ice started to melt in places because the temperatures can reach higher values than before. If all of these glaciers in Greenland melt, the average sea level could rise up to 7 meters. This means destructive floods in many cities of the world, such as our cities as Istanbul and Izmir.

Another dangerous consequence of this temperature change will be sudden weather changes – which we already feel!

Another critical problem of that 1 degree temperature increase is that many are unaware of, but farmers are well acquainted with: sudden temperature changes and sudden precipitation.

Long, hot summers without a drop of rain, harsher winters could mean that many temperature-sensitive seeds are destroyed in just a few hours.

“Well, if we are warming globally, isn’t it good if it is cold?” No! The fact that the weather is colder in a certain part of the world does not mean that the temperature has stabilized and remains the same on a global scale. As we mentioned, heat is starting to accumulate more in certain parts of the planet, and the overall average goes up. This causes the temperature to reach extremes in both directions due to global climate change: Both hot weather and very cold weather… This imbalance negatively affects many economies and living creatures on a global scale.

Therefore, saying “The temperatures in our city are not increasing, but decreasing, so global climate change is a lie.” is like saying “The side of the ship we are on is not going to the bottom of the water, on the contrary, it goes up, so the ship is not sinking.” because one side of a sinking ship is higher than the water.

The situation is very serious and requires urgent action.

Wind is a Free and an Unlimited Energy Source

Wind energy has important advantages over other energy production areas. We can summarize why we should give up fossil resources in energy production and turn to green energy sources such as wind energy as follows:

It is a clean energy source,

The energy source, ie wind, is free.

It constitutes one of the solutions to the climate change problem,

Contributes to energy security and diversifies energy supply,

There is no need to import fuel from external sources and variable prices,

It has an employment and regional development effect,

It has modularity and the ability to set up the production facility quickly,

There is no carbon emission,

It has unlimited resources,

It is land-friendly (the ability to carry out agricultural/industrial activities in or around the wind plant),

It has application flexibility (to be suitable for large-scale commercial power plants or household applications),

Unlike traditional fuels, it is a domestic and always available resource that eliminates fuel costs and long-term fuel price risks in terms of energy security and eliminates supply risks in terms of economic and political dependence on other countries.

TSE gave NORTHEL the TS EN 61400-1-22 certificate, which sets the standard of wind turbines.

In these days when domestic and national weapons are on the agenda, Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) has given the TS EN 61400-1-22 certificate, which determines the standard of wind turbines, to Northel Elektromekanik, which is a domestic company in the field of wind turbine production.

In these days when domestic and national weapons are on the agenda, in the field of wind turbine production, the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) gave the TS EN 61400-1 and 22 certificate, which determines the standard of wind turbines, to Northel Elektromekanik, a domestic company.

The 0.3 MW turbine, produced using 100% domestic technology, design and all domestic raw materials, became the first national wind turbine to receive TS EN 61400-1 and 22 certificates. While the first national and domestic wind turbine was certified with this certificate, the fact that it was accredited by the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TÜRKAK) in the project process was met with excitement by the sector. Thus, equivalence with international norms was achieved.

Stating that all parts of the turbine were approved one by one during the certification process that started in the first quarter of 2016, Northel Electromechanics Chief Designer and Vice Chairman of the Board, Cem Yalçın; “If the products designed and made ready for production in a country are certified by the national certification bodies of that country during design and production, that product is a national. Other productions are domestic productions produced under license. In line with this purpose, our certification bodies must be internationally accredited in the subjects they will certify. After Türk Loydu, one of our national certification institutions, the Turkish Standards Institute was also accredited by TÜRKAK at the end of this process”.

Nationalization in energy

Stating that Berat Albayrak’s, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, emphasis on nationalization in energy has a deep meaning for the sector, Cem Yalçın said, “We have been designing and producing wind turbines since 2003, but we see that national production is supported with this sincerity for the first time in this process. We are getting ready to start mass production of turbines with MW and higher power targeted by the Minister, in the first half of 2019. With the document we have received, we removed a major obstacle in front of the industry. If the support given to domestic production becomes sustainable, the number of companies producing below MW will also increase. The market size in agriculture, municipalities, energy cooperatives and public enterprises is capable of providing jobs to dozens of turbine companies in our country. Technology will develop in these areas. Thus, many domestic companies will turn to foreign markets such as the United States of America, Central America and Africa, and there will be a variety of products in the energy sector and export activities will be paved ”.

False Facts

RIGHT KNOWN WRONGS IN WIND ENERGY

Wind turbines, which are seen in abundance by those who go on holiday in summer and comment abundantly with various estimates and hearsay information, actually contain one of the most environmentalist movements about our world under their gigantic images. While we need to get rid of fossil fuels urgently, the myths about wind power are still confusing.

In this article, we wanted to give the main information as much as we can and convey the mistakes that are thought to be correct.

The average blade diameter of a turbine is around 60 to 100 meters. Tower height from the ground can also vary between 65 and 120 meters. Of course, these figures vary according to environmental conditions. In our country, it is accepted that a wind power plant with a power of 5 MW per square kilometer can be established in areas with a height of 50 m from the ground and wind speeds above 7.5 (m/sec).

Wind turbines protect themselves. The turbine stops operating below a certain wind speed (3-4m/sec) and above a certain wind speed (90-108m/sec). The wind regime in our country is extremely suitable for turbine installation.

Now we can move on to the false facts part.

FALSE 1: It is claimed that wind turbines emit electromagnetic radiation harmful to human health.

TRUTH: Parts that will cause electromagnetic radiation are electrical generators and transformers; The magnetic radiation emitted by them is also extremely low and effective in a very small area. These transformers and generators are already used everywhere in our environment. Measurements show that the magnetic radiation caused by these parts is negligible even when we reach the base of the turbine. If there is any concern about radiation, it is better to talk about hair dryers.

FALSE 2: Wind turbines prevent the operation of electronic devices.

TRUTH: Wings do not affect magnetic waves, but they can block them. This also applies to short distances. The phone may not be able to receive while inside the tower; However, there is no problem in the operation of devices such as telephones and radios beyond 20 meters.

FALSE 3: Wind power plants harm agriculture.

TRUTH: On the contrary, wind power plants occupy only 1 percent of the area where they are installed. The rest of the area can be used for agriculture. Since wind turbines are zero waste, soils, lakes and streams remain clean. Because it does not use water, the saved water remains for agriculture and people’s use. However, thousands of tons of water are consumed every day in thermoelectric power plants.

FALSE 4: Wind power plants are noisy.

TRUTH: A wind turbine now emits no more than a refrigerator at a distance of 300 meters. The sound of the wind blowing in quiet rural areas is often louder than that of turbines. Nevertheless, it is a priority to install wind turbines away from the surrounding settlements in order to prevent possible disturbances based on EIA reports.

FALSE 5. Wind energy causes bird deaths.

TRUTH: Every wind power plant is established as a result of the review of Environmental Impact Assessment reports. Great care is taken not to set up plants in areas, such as migration routes, that attract large bird or bat groups. It has been calculated that the total turbines are responsible for the direct death of only 0.01-0.02 percent of all birds that die each year, whereas land vehicles cause many times more of these deaths.

6.YANLIŞ: Turkey is not a geography have enough wind to benefit from wind energy.

TRUTH: According to the data of German Wind Energy Institute DEWI, our country’s wind potential is equivalent to Spain’s wind potential. Spain, on the other hand, ranks second after Germany among countries with wind farm installed power in Europe.

FALSE 7: Wind energy cannot be an uninterruptible power source.

RIGHT: Turkey’s wind map shows that it is possible to produce electricity from wind energy there almost whole year. The last wind turbine installed power of our country is 8700 MW and these thousands of turbines are connected to the interconnected system without any problem. Apart from this, technology is developing and if the energy storage capacity is created around 6 times the hourly production, it can produce energy without the need for any other energy support.

Allianz Teknik & Milres – Technical Cooperation

MİLRES Rüzgar Enerji Sistemleri AŞ is a domestic enterprise. This national enterprise can provide certification to the products it produces and will produce with TSE and Türk Loydu in the IEC 61400 standard. Our first application was the 2007 TSE Gebze campus, and even though the certification is in 2017, we are always looking forward.

As with every product based on Renewable Energy, wind turbines pay back the investment as much as the energy it generates. For this, the investor naturally demands a guarantee. Standards not only provide the production quality, but also ensure the safety of the product for the environment and human beings. Disasters such as fire, earthquake and lightning are very destructive events that lead to the termination of investment. No matter how well you model a product, standards cannot certify that product without applying and testing.

Allianz Teknik has recently started its activities as the only accredited laboratory where products can be tested in terms of earthquake and fire in our country and has met a very important need. In this context, MİLRES Rüzgar Enerji Sistemleri A.Ş. will take precautions against these destructive events and become ready by working in cooperation with Allianz Teknik for both its existing turbines and the turbines in the certification process.

Turbines will be modeled and directly exposed to earthquake heights in test environments that can be loaded up to 10 G magnitude impacts. Turbine parts will also be tested in this laboratory, weaknesses will be determined, developed and documented.

Allianz Technical and MİLRES managers, by stepping into a successful cooperation in the domestic production of turbines met again to achieve a first in Turkey. With this cooperation, certification on earthquake and fire issues in the local turbine will be provided.

This very important cooperation will ensure that the turbines of MİLRES are sold abroad within the scope of insurance and benefit from foreign financial funds in the country. It will be ensured that the turbines are resistant to earthquakes and fire and this will be documented. As a result of the document, insurance will be provided in the most economical way in the largest scope.

Insuring a domestic turbine in Turkey was provided for the first time in Poyra 300 turbine in Bursa Municipality. The insurance work was carried out in 2016 by Kotra Insurance Agency, which is today a partner of MİLRES. It is the first study in Turkey’s history in this sense. This situation, still ignored by the public sector, made connected to the first certificate in Turkey. The place where all these will attract attention will be MİLRES.
